Public Comments on Revisions to Incident Reporting and Investigation Guidelines

13/03/2017

The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB) and Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) jointly revised the Incident Reporting and Investigation Guidelines (previously released June 2009 and November 2012).

With the addition of Part III.1 to both the federal and provincial Accord Acts in December 2014, the introduction of the transitional regulations in January 2015 and feedback from stakeholders on the current version, the decision was made to update this Guideline.

The Guideline is intended to assist those with regulatory responsibilities in complying with the requirements of the Accord Acts for the reporting and investigation of incidents that occur in the Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Areas. It also provides plain language explanations and examples as to how the Boards interpret the Accord Acts and how the Boards intend to apply them.

The two Boards are currently seeking comments on the draft Incident Reporting and Investigation Guideline. Comments may be submitted to the addresses below or emailed to info@cnsopb.ns.ca until April 24, 2017.  Upon receipt, all submissions will be considered by the two Boards.
